Our style is Gaiden Kai which means outside tradition or alternate of the original. It is a mixed martial art containing Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, and Jujitsu. We have a set of core requirements in our system which are broken down based on age levels. We learn to use weapons like the Bo and Tonfa, ground fighting, self defense, and sparring. We also train in Modern Arnis(stick fighting). We do use protective padding when sparring to help minimize injuries. Our student base ranges from 5 to 50 years old. The youngest age we accept in our school is around 5 years old. Belt testing is required for advancement and is performed on a regular basis. There is really no set time frame for a student to reach black belt level. The average for most students is 3+ years. Students from other martial arts can be accepted into our style after an evaluation with the instructor. Gaiden Kai has set up 3 different levels of black belt for our students: Pee Wee Black Belt (11 years old and younger), Jr. Black Belt (12 - 15 years old), and Adult Black Belt (16 years old and up).
